LaGrange High School Cheerleader Information Sheet
2008-09
The LaGrange cheerleader tryouts will be held in the girls’ gym at LaGrange on Thursday, March 20, 2008. Tryouts will begin at 3:30 p.m. and should be finished by 5:30 p.m. No one is allowed to watch tryouts. On Monday, March 10, there will be a mandatory parents’ meeting held in the LaGrange cafeteria at 6:00 p.m. We will be reviewing the constitution and other important information concerning policies and procedures. Every cheerleader who plans to try must attend with a parent or guardian. Any cheerleader who fails to attend this meeting with a parent or guardian will not be allowed to try out.
The tryout cheer, dance, and jumps will be taught on Tuesday, March 18. On Wednesday, girls will go through a simulated tryout to practice for the real thing on Thursday. For tryouts each girl will perform the dance and cheer taught with her group, an additional cheer done individually, and required jumps (right hurdle, left hurdle, ground-up toe touch. The additional cheer can be one that she made up or learned from another cheerleader. Practice times are 3:30 – 5:30 Tuesday and Wednesday and will be held in the girls’ gym. No one may copy or video tryout material, and no one except girls trying out will be allowed in the gym during practice. Tryouts are closed; only those trying out and judges will be allowed in the gym.
Practices are extremely physical and girls should get in shape now. Attendance is mandatory. Practice clothes should be of the type where the girl can jump without constraint (no cut off blue jeans). Tennis shoes with socks are required. Hair should be neat and pulled back out of the face. No jewelry of any kind or cut off shorts are allowed to be worn during practice and tryouts. Also, you may not wear any “cheerleading” outfits which would indicate that you have been or are currently a cheerleader.
All girls interested in trying out for cheerleader must have the attached forms completed and signed by a parent/guardian and returned to Mrs. Douglas at LaGrange (room 127) by Friday March 14, 2008 and pay a 10.00 registration fee to cover the cost of tryouts. Don’t wait until the last minute to try and get things done!
All cheerleaders will be chosen by a panel of judges’ scores and teacher recommendation scores. The number of cheerleaders will be determined by the sponsor and the scores.
